The alarm duly went off at 5.30, to be
ignored by both Nit and myself until Nit decided we’d better get up at 6.15 as
we had to set off at 7. Checked the
cameras were fully charged as his friend, who was the one getting married, had
requested Nit provide photos and a video. Nit had even agreed a price for
performing this function, duly paid in advance.
At 7 a truck drew up outside
full of the grooms family with the groom and friends hanging off the back. Thankfully, given we have a trip to Khon Kaen
ahead, they jumped into the pickup.
First stop at the end of the village to buy beers for the trip. Well the sun was over the yardarm somewhere
in the world.
At about 10.30 we arrived at a small village and drew up a friends
house where food was being served.
However Nit decided that we’d be better sticking to beer until later. So someone was despatched to the nearest shop
whilst the family tucked in.
The groom
changed into a cream outfit and his two ‘supporters tied cream sashes over
their shoulders and joined us for a beer.
About 11 we set off walking through
the village to the brides house about 400m away. Nit and I duly taking photos and video of the
procession.
On arrival at the house the Grooms feet were washed and then the
groom and the supporters went inside.
The ‘ceremony’ started and after about 15 minutes the bride joined them
with her two supporters. A white thread
was held by the group and the ceremony proper began.
Eventually the ‘ceremony part over the guests
took turns to go forward give money to the bride and tie white cotton threads
around the wrists of the bride and groom.
Once this was over food was served outside, but Nit decided we’d eat
when we got home. About 1 we left and
arrived home to eat about 3.
