I've reviewed the layout and added a number of functions to the sidebar.
As well as the option to translate the blog with google translate, I've added news feeds, weather and a currency converter as well as some fun stuff. I am all blogged out as a result.

This is only a first step. I shall be making further changes during the few days moving some functions to separate pages and adding a menu bar. Please bear with me if you have problems accessing the blog between now and month end.
